BIO (direct translation):

Caiffa Cosimo, aka CHEONE, was born in Gallipoli in the province of Lecce on May 26, 1979; since he was a child he showed a particular interest for drawing and painting. He grow up surrounded by artists and art lovers including an uncle and the father of a friend, a well-known painter from Gallipoli; he often looks at them at work and learns the techniques of painting on canvas from them.

At the age of 8-9 he moved with his family to Germany, where he lived and studied until one day, by chance missing the bus, he noticed in a little hidden street some older boys who were painting on a wall with spray cans; he was immediately fascinated by the technique and colors they used to make their pieces; he stopped to watch them all afternoon.
From that moment he began to approach the culture of writing, starting to make his first lettering; after these he begins to devote himself to the figurative until for personal reasons (a woman) returns to live in Italy, precisely in Nerviano in the province of Milan.
He knows some b-boys, members of crew Quimmoda, a crew from Rho (MI), of which he joins; with them he begins to make himself known throughout the area.

‘Fabrics’ by Street Artist Xomatok

BIO: Xomatok is an artist from Lima, Perú, beginning his love for Street and Urban Art in 2007. He works within a contemporary aesthetic that explores the intervention of color and its affects on visual language.

His work is based on the design and alteration of space, with emphasis the manifestation of color and its relationship to the human experience.

Xomatok feels that Street Art produces a sense of freedom for both himself, as the artist, and the observer: creating a dialogue between the art, the artist and its spectators – it is as though the art does not exist without its audience.

They was like enormous rock virgin and at my 14 years old, we started, me and friends, to graff on it, to be proud or ashamed if it was not enough inventive or nice, well it’s like someone who started to learn walking among other who are too, it was fun, interesting, challenging and poetical too. – näutil

On of my favorite anecdote : a kid was inside the blockhaus where I have painted a big elephant (7 meter high) and then his father was calling him and he answer “wait dad, I’m inside the elephant, I’m coming !”. Well, it is very rewarding to provoke that kind of poetry, to help kids or people to reconnected themselves with little small thing that make souls and desires happy or filled. – näutil

About the project in JR’s own words: “I have always been interested in jails. After all, as canvas jails are just closed walls. I did a project a few years ago in Rikers Island and it was a fascinating experience because nothing happens in a prison, and when those who are there are confronted with something new, it quickly becomes a highlight. They invest so much energy in it that it gets very emotional.
A friend called me recently to say that I could be granted access to a jail in California. At first, I thought it would be too much paperwork and constraints, but luckily someone who participated in The Chronicles of San Francisco facilitated the process.
So, with Google Earth, I browsed all the 35 State prisons of California, and I chose Tehachapi without knowing it was a maximum security prison… I just thought that the yard and the surroundings would make a perfect image.
The idea was to meet with men working on rehabilitation, and to also engage formerly incarcerated men, their family members, as well as the prison staff, and survivors of violent crimes.
When I got there, I understood that most of these men were incarcerated when they were teenagers between 13 and 20 … I told them about my project and made it clear that I did not want to know what they had done. They had a trial, they have been sentenced and I am not their judge. Nevertheless, a couple of guys left because they felt that their presence would be embarrassing for their families or for the families of their victims.

I was asked not to approach the guys too closely because they are not comfortable with interactions but when I got in, I couldn’t refrain from looking at them in the eyes, shaking their hands, introducing myself and asking their names. Just because that’s what humans do. They were amazingly grateful for this… A number of them were in prison for life because of the three strikes law in California.

Some will be freed because the law changed since they got in. During the process I was allowed to use my phone and I shared stories about the pasting on social media. I received reactions from everywhere, from their families, from victims, from critics, from people who were shocked by the swastika tattooed on the face of a man, etc. I shared them, we discussed.
The families of the inmates started replying also on social media and there was a connection between the inside and the outside for a brief moment. When the piece was pasted we decided to wait for a couple of weeks so we could put together a platform for everyone to hear the stories. Why? Because we know that it is a sensitive subject and we wanted anyone to be able to listen to stories of hope and redemption, to get testimonies that one doesn’t normally hear. Because what happened there when these men, their guards, and some victims worked all together on an art piece has to be seen. We wanted to share the process and embrace the complexity of human actions and feelings that we have witnessed .. These men have been judged guilty when they were young, some were dragged into gangs and did heavy mistakes, and they have paid or are paying the price. They say that they changed and they are ready to become active citizens, to give a meaning to their lives.

The final image was captured with a drone. It also features some formerly incarcerated men and victims who accepted to forgive and came back inside the prison to paste the huge image composed with 338 strips of paper.

A few years ago I started a journey called “Can art change the world?”. It is still an open question. And with this project, I want to raise another question: “Can a man change?”. Before answering yes or no, ask yourself the question: Did I change? Did I make mistakes, apologize and amend? If I did, why couldn’t they?

Land art by Saype in Decazeville, France on Mur Murs Festival

Saype used more than 10,000 m2 of biodegradable paint for the artwork.

In his own words: “We were invited by @murmursfestival to realize a fresco in Decazeville (FR). The idea of the festival is to dynamize the region through art.
This spot was the biggest coal mine in Europe and later became a beautiful place with nature and animals. It was a great chance for us and so touching to work on this place with a such history. I decided to paint again a child who is drawing his imagination, full of hope and optimism… For me representing childhood is also representing ourselves. What are our values? What do we want to let to our children? Which world will we leave behind us?”

Abu Malik al-Shami, often hailed as “Syria’s Banksy,” used the crumbling walls of Darayya, a city devastated by the Syrian conflict, as his canvas to tell stories of resilience, loss, and the human cost of war.

Through murals painted amidst the ruins, his work captures the emotional and physical toll of years of violence while offering a powerful message of hope and humanity. As Syria transitions into a new chapter following the end of the Assad regime, these artworks stand as enduring symbols of a nation’s suffering and its unyielding spirit.

Dive into this collection of al-Shami’s most evocative pieces, each one a testament to the resilience of the Syrian people and a call for peace and healing in the aftermath of conflict.

In early 2013, still a teenager, he made his way to Darayya to join the Free Syrian Army.

Armed with little more than his sketchbooks and pencils, he quickly confronted the brutal realities of war. On his very first day in Darayya, he learned how to handle a gun. By the second day, he found himself on the front line.

It wasn’t until 2014 that his journey took a transformative turn. He met an artist named Majd, known as the “Eye of Darayya,” who encouraged him to channel his talent into street art. His debut mural, painted on the ruins of a large house, depicted a girl pointing to a heart—teaching a soldier about love before he heads into battle. This marked the beginning of his poignant artistic journey amidst the devastation of war.

A beautiful, carved art piece utilizing a dead tree breathing in some new life into the old wood. Every inch of which has been carved into an intricate statue, with hundreds of human and animal figures piled on top of each other, in an eternal struggle to reach the top.
