Hey everyone, I’m #newhere. I’m interested in #90s, #ack, #astrophysics, #authoritarianism, #awk, #blackholes, #confusion, #depression, #esperanto, #freethinker, #grep, #hiddenspaces, #indie-rock, #information, #informationdisparity, #informationethics, #institutionalpsychopathology, #kafka, #kony2012, #kuato, #kurtvonnegut, #librarian, #linux, #mathrock, #n24, #narrativedeterminism, #neutronstars, #newhere, #nihil, #nineties, #non24, #non24crd, #not-exercising, #okay, #oldhere, #pittsburgh, #pittsburghdiaspora, #podcasts, #polysics, #regex, #ruby-lang, and #sed.
This seems to be the last functional #diaspora server in the USA that is still accepting new users. I am grateful. My goal is to make connections with people by developing a large list of tags. I am interested in people's writing. I don't mind memes, so long as there is some accompanying commentary. I was a long time user of #livejournal in the deep past. It was not uncommon to make "friends" with people on livejournal due to shared common interests. This was in the period of 1999 to 2005. At some point, "social media" developed, and the #teleology shifted. It was no longer about Users using the software to create new associations based on common interests, but rather it became about the software recreating Users' IRL social networks online (and exploiting them). So, I have spent twenty years looking for a "social media" platform that is abstract, generic and sufficiently User-oriented to function in the "old-fashioned" way that the Web+RSS (often called web 2.0) was supposed to be. So I am attempting to do that here.
