According to my experiences: Gnome is better if you want out of box, stable and just working environment. Good apps with great and minimal design. In the other hand, Plasma is not as good as Gnome when default. But customization makes it much more comfortable than Gnome after get used to it.
@E.A.Yavas I had the opposite experience. For me KDE is better out of the box whereas with gnome I had to add extensions to make it the way I want. Now I just use the default KDE on Fedora Kinoite.
I liked gnome. Then they changed the whole system, forced a lot of components on me, dropped others, and I have dropped them. On the other hand I never liked KDE. Well, I'm stuck with whatever else I find. 😉

A matter of taste I guess.

•Was it Gnome 2 you liked?

Technically I could use Mate, but it lost the whole point of Gnome which was a universal, generic, simple and good looking widget environment.
The new Gnome became windows©™.

•I see. I'm sorry to hear there isn't anything for you these days and yeah Mate is probably not the same as gnome was. I haven't tried it though.
So what OS do you use then?
grin
Don't worry about me, I'm using everything from gnome to kde, on the application level. Just the window managing environment is low profile. 😀
