Well—I’ve been here for over 12 years (maybe 15? Is that even possible?), though unfortunately, there’s no easy way to check that.

I used to be a die-hard Twitter user and kept an eye out for alternatives. Diaspora was being discussed in "my community" back then—that’s how I ended up here. I can’t quite explain it; I’ve had long periods of inactivity, and a lot of people have disappeared.

But there’s something "calm" and reliable about it. I enjoy being here, even if I’m not around constantly.

That’s it in a nutshell.

I read about it in a US computer magazine and found it interesting. I started looking around in late 2012 and eventually ended up at podmob.net. Since there were recurring issues there, I created a backup account at Ruhrspora*** in late **2013. That quickly became my main account. I’ve also been on Geraspora*** since the summer of **2014, and my time with podmob.net came to an end in December 2015. After experimenting with Friendica, and following the closure of Ruhrspora* and other issues, I’ve become firmly established on Geraspora*.

I came when Google+ shut down. I like to share my art online so this is a good place for me. I find a lot of the posts intelligent and interesting too. There’s a lot of smart ppl using Diaspora.

5/18/2017 is when I made my first post. I was experimenting with self hosting and came across diaspora as I had grown tired of Facebook as I no longer ever saw posts from my acquaintances there. I also had no idea what I was doing or how permanent things could be. Started this pod in a Ubuntu VM in VirtualBox… man what a trip it has been though!

And have you managed to get many of your irl acquaintances on diaspora? ... I failed at this, bar a few, who mostly fell away.

If I actually want to talk to someone I know, I’ll text them. No reason for my relationships to be public on a social network. But I like meeting new people so I still have a social account.
