If you want to follow a specific topic in your Home timeline, know that on Mastodon you can follow hashtags! 
HOW TO ❓
1. On desktop browser (this will vary for mobile apps), type the topic you are looking for in the upper left “Search” field without space (ex: StarTrek) 🔍
2. In the “Search results” select the tab “Hashtags” #️⃣
3. Click on the hashtag closest to what you are looking for 🖖
4. At the top right of the hashtag feed, click on the “Follow hashtag” button that looks like a human figure with a plus sign 👤+
