More than marginal! Little Shop of Horrors has sympathetic characters, like poor Seymour, the florist and his boss, and even the plant (just needs to be fed; only problem is it’s a bloodgoterian).
I enjoyed Sweeney Todd, a special treat for a graduation or something, because it was the big buzz in town at the time, mostly being Sondheim plus the incomparable Broadway production onstage.

I was a child/teen when that came to the 2nd Avenue Theater, near where I later lived for a bit. The thing which endeared me and many others - to the point of a film being made in its ‘memorial’ - was both the very funny characters (think Woody Allen/New York neurotic) and the staging, First experience like that in my life… during the frenzy of the play, when the plant was getting hungrier and the pressure was on, jumbo shoots of plant shot out into the playhouse, suspended above us, the audience. Anyway…
Thus was my easing-into-Memorial Day. Really sickened to watch “Meet the Press” (NBC). Special on mental health. Spoke a lot of truth, things I’ve preached for years, about teen peer pressure and the intentional ‘addiction’ of teens by big companies (FB, games) etc. Studies of depression… yes. I lobbied, then studied, researched & practiced that realm. What has me angered (and that takes a lot!) is that the whole message (IMM) basically followed along with the script we know -
blame the companies (fine, they deserve it), notice that teens are actively curious and sensitive (ok, nice reminder), maybe even pitch for “mental health services”.
BUT… why is that hour not being used to scream that a BIG factor in mental health is having a #media single-mindedly avoiding the HUGE #GQP elephant in the room: a stark raving madman with enablers and like-minded cretins “like nobody’s ever seen before”, as “OUR” representatives - the block of #TrumpVirus cultists - vote to end food for children, healthcare for poor and elderly, support for students, billions of TrumpDollar$ to a wall and to building Gulags as our institutions of science and education are gutted… Remember how Presidents and public servants have always (in our lifetimes, thus far), been role models? Just look at these Congressmen… Some are nearly as crazy &/or vacant &/or smug/corrupt as Trump and Fiends… Helped by participant-observers in #media & #law
I remember what was my America, As well as though who fought and still fight.
Outta here now… back into the realm of the past quarter-century, when #respect & #sanity mattered truly. Peaceful holiday day to those honoring #MemorialDay
