MacOS native emoji picker (that you can bring up with Control + Command + Space in any text field) now has an auto-replace suggestion feature based on the last word you typed.

Say you type "zombie" and then bring up the emoji picker, it's going to suggest either 🧟, 🧟‍♀️ or 🧟‍♂️ and if you go with any of the suggestions, it replaces the word with the selected emoji. Fine.

However, if the word was the last of a sentence and you add a period after it, the emoji picker will still suggest emojis based on the last word, but the selected emoji will be added after the period, doubling the meaning of a word you already typed.

Of course, in this case, if you want to add any other emoji like a normal non-redundant person, you have to perform an extra action. 😒
