So im putting together an online #
CallOfCthulhu game with some friends over webcam.
Last night we did character creation. I've been doing a kind of pre-practiced song and dance about playing #
ttrpgs in historical settings.
Basically pointing out the inherent misogyny/racism/homophobia/etc in the 1920s. Explaining people should feel free to play any kind of character they want. We will in no way limit player choice.
We may present bigotry in the game, as something to push against, as a way to label NPCs as bad actors or villains. Though if that makes people uncomfortable we will table even that. But I am in no way interested in running a historically accurate racism simulator.
This is when one of the players shared their prior history with #
CoC under another GM.
Who deemed anyone with a sufficiently low Appearance characteristic as black.
AND I was aghast.
Im kinda new to the #
CallOfCthulhu scene. But like, was this shit ever common?
