#TFW you do three hours of research into a story, only to finally remember you have already blogged about it two years ago... 😅

(granted, didn't dig this deep last time...)

"Young women were the true originators of the Grimms tales"

Really interesting article on how the young Grimm brothers collected their stories.

December 10.
Wall of pastries

From India. A stingy king eats carefully measured pastries daily while his subjects go hungry. The girl who makes the pastries manages to pilfer ingredients every day and make one extra to secretly give to the poor.
When an enemy attacks the kingdom a wall of pastries rises up from thin air to protect the starving soldiers. It is a sign that only kindness can save the realm. The king learns his lesson.

Prompt 4: Rebel

This prompt reminded me of the Jewish folktale titled The Rebel Princess.

It's about a princess who runs away with the man she loves. They get separated, and she goes through several adventures. At one point, she recruits a crew of women and takes over a pirate ship.
Eventually she becomes queen, and finds her lost love.

Prompt 2: Tree

A Transylvanian Roma folktale says in the old days trees could walk.
A rich man once saw a beautiful old oak, and ordered it to follow him home, to be cut up as firewood. Then he ordered the tree to carry him and his food along the way. Then ordered it to steal the bell from the church tower, just because.
At that point, lightning struck, and God decided trees should not walk and obey people anymore.
