Our instance uses a different cusotm made theme. More modern in my view. Different colors and dark/light variations. Also it works with any Mastodon apps.

As far as I know there is only one fully working public theme. I cannot comment yours. I just wish there was some modern and fully working theme.

I started on Friendica some time ago, using the friendiqa client for Android, but found it clunky, ugly and slow, so I never really used it.

Is there a better client for mobile, or is Friendica best left to browsers? Or should I just use Tusky for both?

Friendica is a different beast now. It works with pretty much all Mastodon apps. Plus, for our own instance, we made custom themes that in my view look a lot better, more modern.

No, I think that was someone else. I haven't had any issue with following other accounts on Friendica, at least so far.

I'm currently using #Fedilab (https://fedilab.app). It has its issues, but the developer is interested in improving Friendica support, so you can report bugs and they're quick to fix it.
