When I mark a post as "public" on #Friendica or #Diaspora, is it only available to other users logged into federated web apps using compatible protocols, or can it be visited by any web user? If it's the latter, what's the URL for visiting a public feed on these platforms?
If it is public, it is public. You can see it on the web using any browser you want. Either start from the profile URL or you see it elsewhere in the stream of the whole known network following the source link.

Usually the URL of a single posting is something along the line example.com/display/content-id-string on Friendica and example.com/posts/content-id-string on Diaspora*. The link to the posting is, like in Mastodon, below the time/date stamp of the posting in the web-UI.

For the feed URL I don't know about Diaspora* but for Friendica it is example.com/feed/account
on #diaspora
1. visible to any user
2. available on the same URL as on the logged-in web, like https://spora.grin.hu/posts/221092
