I noticed a trend in the #videogames I enjoy: whether the floor can get dirty, and optionally be cleaned. This ranges from cosmetic trampled grass in The Settlers III (1998), tank tracks in Supreme Commander (2007) and muddy footprints in Graveyard Keeper (2018) to being a mood factor in Theme Hospital (1998), Rimworld (2013) and Project Hospital (2018) to the whole point of the game in Viscera Cleanup Detail (2015). I'm starting to believe this denotes a particular attention to detail I'm apparently sensitive to.

Do you know any others games making use of that niche feature?

Well, a great many 3D RPGs show footprints a short distance behind your character’s path. They usually fade away past a certain number of decals to avoid hogging resources. A lot of racing games do the same for drift marks. In a similar vein, many shooters will do the same with bullet holes on surfaces. As far as cleaning them... I think if you step in the goo in Super Mario Sunshine you leave footprints for a short distance, and you can spray them clean, but I could be misremembering. Either way the game is all about cleaning.
@Bruno Veilleux I loved Super Mario Sunshine, thanks for the suggestion!
@Hypolite Petovan Grass in (Shattered) Pixel Dungeon gets trampled and it has effect in gameplay: visibility changes, some character and armor capabilities depend on grass state.
Thank you for the suggestion, Shattered Pixel Dungeon is only available for Android but I’ll give iOS’ base Pixel Dungeon a shot!
Self-suggestion: Industries of Titan has cleanable floors! I’ve been following their progress during Early Access and impatiently await the final release.
