Hubzilla sendmail sorted but WHY must Debian make life difficult
Thomas Willingham's neat Hubzilla Install script makes life very easy and were it not for unix 'passwordless' authentication method in MySQL or what appears to be changes to the way php operates, everything would be fine. Is it just me or does debian hastily incorporate as default such changes to packages that aren't well-documented, leaving non-power users running in circles?
On the first install, unix socket enabled by default on MySQL and I couldn't find a way through that. Second install, I set the databases up myself instead of leaving it to debian and the script.. then allowed the script to do the rest of its magic. Restored and sendmail worked! Great. Probably because I'm using Apache instead of nginx this time. But now, all-but hubzilla contacts show up without images - tried to update the database using the php script and I am blocked by permission denied. All the tweaking of php.ini and chmod - all of Sunday and I've had it with Debian.
Back to Ubuntu and will follow the script manually, installing Apache this time. Should be great fun and no sleep and another great start to a week!
