@VOANews@ArcticToday real question is why they chose to create accounts instead of instances.
@ChrisUplus I can answer that for us: we are a smallish nonprofit with a small and overworked development team with a huge backlog. I (from the audience side) can set up an account to post here on my own. Our dev team needs to prioritize creating an instance against all the work they do. And the fediverse-credibility gain of having our own instance instead of letting someone else do it is hard to stack up against core improvements in our website.
@ChrisUplus
It took just minutes to spin up a droplet on Digital Ocean and add a line to our DNS. Will cost us maybe ~$12/mo.
@DSmith_Tucson@ChrisUplus
It is funny to observe people asking a question, getting a properly written and well reasoned answer then ignoring that and keep asserting their own opinions.

(Keeping up an official instance is different from having one for your own playground, but if I have to explain that then it's futile anyway.)
