Hey, friends.
It’s been a while. Roughly about two years, in fact. A lot has happened since our publication last put anything out. I’m going to get into the how and why in a minute, but the important thing is: we’re back. This project is alive again, publishing some of the only journalism around dedicated solely to the Fediverse.
I’ll be honest: writing articles on a consistent schedule is hard. We Distribute has historically operated as a free publication, available to everybody. That isn’t going to change, but the reality is that the burnout that afflicted me over the past few years made it difficult to keep contributing. I had to step away from doing this for a while, but I was also the main person running it.
I can’t run this thing by myself. Which is why I’m reaching out to the community at large to see if we can build something truly great together.
There are a number of ways that you can support our efforts: we need insight from experts within the community. We need writers who can cover different parts of a network that’s growing in every direction. We need funds to keep the lights running. And finally, we need readers who want to share our work around the network.
We’re taking everything that made the old We Distribute great, and making it bigger and better than ever before. We’re going beyond just writing about the tech, and focusing on the people building it, the issues that come up, and the culture that’s developed.
I’m excited to be finally doing this, after such a long period of recovery and rebuilding. I can’t wait to share what we’ve been cooking up.

Our fledgling news publication is 100% volunteer-run, and 100% free. We don’t serve ads, we don’t sell your data, and we don’t put articles behind paywalls. We are dedicated to producing high quality pieces to help keep the network informed about everything happening within it.
As a side effect to this approach, we need support from the Community to keep things running. There are a few different areas that you can help us with!
Donations
Hosting isn’t exactly cheap, and we’re working to assemble essential infrastructure necessary to make collaboration with community members smooth and easy.
For now, there are a few different ways to donate:Write With Us!
We Distribute is a small publication with a few passionate people behind it, all doing it in their spare time. We’re trying our best to cover as much ground as possible, but the network is massive, and we want to write about more than just the technology behind it.
We intend to have these types of pieces:Hang Out With Us!
- News – general updates about platforms, apps, clients, and more.
- Reviews – in-depth evaluations of apps and platforms, rife with screenshots and insights on how things work.
- Guides – Technical explainers and discovery tools to keep fedizens informed on how to do stuff.
- Culture – People are one of the biggest, most interesting aspects of the network. This section includes pieces of history, awesome and wacky events, and insights on what’s going on in different communities.
- Interviews – we sit down and talk to the people who are building the network. Interviews can be traditional Q&A, or more fleshed-out biographical pieces.
- Opinion – Our newest edition, this is an opportunity for fedizens from a variety of different backgrounds to express their opinions on what’s important to them, or what needs to change.
