HERA, a German street artist, has made a name for herself with murals that blend fine art and graffiti.

After stepping away from HERAKUT, she now works independently, creating large-scale art that often features humans and animals in dreamlike, emotional scenes. HERA’s style mixes detailed brushwork with the raw energy of street art, inviting viewers to connect with the deep stories her work tells. HERA about Wild Child: Choosing a stray cat as the hero of a piece of public art is my way of attempting a balance between the existing monuments of some pompous monarchs or war generals and the real inhabitants of a place. I want the little ones, the real ones, the actual souls of the streets to be recognized. I want to pay homage to the ones who surely have fought through their fair share of struggles, and have their scars to prove it, but chose to for the most days just quietly exists, mind their business and remind us to enjoy even the uneventful days.

HERA: Because I work when I freestyle i came to the wall without a sketch and spend my time listening to what locals said about Karlstad. Every detail of this artwork was inspired by some info I came across at the spot, but also its overall theme about hospitality.

The words on the upper left side read “Sola i Karlstad” which was the nickname of one particularly friendly tavern waitress and innkeeper in the city back in the 18th century; Eva Lisa Holtz. I think it’s absolutely amazing that the city even has a statue for her. How many cities in the world can say that they consider a sunny disposition and kindness as monument-worthy traits? I just love that!

So, that and the fact that being a good host is a ton of effort, I felt like I should dedicate this mural art to everyone who uses their time on earth to nurture others. And to unite others, no matter how far apart they usually sit.

BIO: Rast is a self-taught artist from Yvelines (78). After spending his youth drawing in his notebooks, he began to tag at the age of 14. Two years later he embarked on lettering with the blaze he chose for himself: “For my blaze, I was inspired by my last name. And I like the letters that compose it”. Despite everything, he abandoned lettering fourteen years later and preferred to make realistic portraits. Rast works on the skin texture on his portraits, and never forgets his baroque frame. He is inspired by “faces of the world” during his travels for his creations.

PichiAvo (Pichi, b. 1977; Avo, b. 1985) is a duo of artists from Valencia (Spain).

Recognized for their skill at creating connections between painting and sculpture in urban settings, they adopt a thoroughly innovative approach in their artistic fusions. A balanced combination of classical art and the most contemporary urban art can be identified in their work. From the outset PichiAvo shunned artistic individuality, joining forces to create an absolutely unique body of work using a conceptually urban idiom, both in the street and in the studio.

They trained in Fine Art and in Design and met on the graffiti art scene in Valencia, forming the PichiAvo duo in 2007. From that moment they worked on developing joint projects, pursuing an unremitting search for a style of their own. To achieve this they went through various stages as painters, focusing initially on skill and technique until they reached the point of needing to express themselves through what most defines them today: graffiti and classical art. They work both outside and inside the studio, in painting, sculpture and installation, embracing a wide and versatile range of material and painterly approaches.

Since 2015 PichiAvo have carried out projects at some of the leading venues in international urban art, including the legendary Houston Bowery Wall in New York (2017), where theirs was the first painting intervention by European artists. In 2019 they created a monumental 26-metre-high sculpture for the Fallas festival in Valencia and held their first major exhibition in the El Carme public cultural centre. In April 2019 they executed the second largest mural in the world in the city of Porto, in collaboration with the celebrated Portuguese artist Vhils.

PichiAvo’s career has attained artistic recognition, critical acclaim and popularity on an international scale, establishing them among the most prominent street artists on the current urban art scene

SMUG: My wall for this years Artscape project in Partille, Göteborg. This year we were given a folk tale to base our murals on and I was given the tale of Revontulet. In the Finnish origin story of the Aurora Borealis a firefox wins favor of the villagers by igniting the sky with the Northern Lights to help a lost hiker find his way in the icy woods. This is now the tallest mural in Sweden and whispers are saying the tallest in Scandinavia.

BIO: Mr Cenz has been scribbling on surfaces since 1988 when he first discovered hip-hop culture and graffiti art. He soon became obsessed with this new and exciting art form and after a few brushes with the law he decided to find ways of developing his skills legally. Since his first commissioned mural at 11yrs old he has continued progressing and experimenting with his art through college and University. This has led to a career as a professional graffiti artist with several solo shows and high profile commissions internationally.

His distinctive work can currently be seen all over the streets of the world, especially in his hometown of London. It features layers of intricate and flowing letterforms, shapes and line work, which are abstracted in a unique and aesthetically pleasing way. His style is full of funk and movement and fuses different skills together such as photorealism, illustration and graffiti letterforms. His work is open to individual interpretation and has been described as “surrealist graffiti art for the soul”. He works hard to make sure each piece he creates is very individual and distinctive in its quality. His influences range from the old school graffiti artists that inspired him as a kid such as Dondi and Mode 2 to abstract expressionist painters like Paul Klee and Roger Hilton.

His new work focuses on female faces, which he distorts in his trademark style. He works from portrait and fashion photographs to create unique interpretations of strong and spiritual women, which are abstracted in a spontaneous and freestyle way to create interesting and mysterious compositions. Theses pieces are a melting pot of all the different influences and technical skills he has acquired over the years.

3D Street Artist Juandres Vera

“Dream Of Freedom” by Juandres Vera at 5 Pl. de Picardie in Boulogne-Sur-Mer, France for Street Art – Boulogne-sur-Mer.

Juandres Vera about his mural: When I read about the history of Boulogne-sur-Mer, different aspects resonated in my inspiration to try different composition paths: its importance for fishing, strategic situation for some wars, and even having been the birthplace of Esperanto.

However, one aspect influenced more than all the others, and that was the figure of the Argentine liberator José de San Martín.

Due to a series of historical disagreements, San Martín spent his last days in this city of Boulogne-sur-Mer where he died at the age of 72.

Beyond the historical role that José de San Martín played for Argentina, I was especially struck by how much he cared about the education of his daughter, so much so that he wrote the “Maxims for Merceditas.”

Years after his death, a monument was erected in his memory in this same city, an equestrian statue, which remained standing despite the multiple bombings that destroyed everything around it in both world wars and for which the legend of the miracle of the statue of José de San Martín was created.

From all the above came the idea for this wall: a female figure representing freedom, then I decided it would be a girl in association with the liberator’s daughter, and a paper boat made with an Argentine bill with the figure of the same procer which in turn represents the close connection of Boulogne-sur-Mer with the sea.

Finally, a cute Puffin was incorporated for which I still do not have a name, but many walkers asked me to give it one, can you help with suggestions in your comments?

Located in the charming Śródka district of Poznań, Poland, an eye-catching mural by artist Radosław Barek has become a beloved attraction.

Found east of Ostrów Tumski on ul. Śródka 3, the mural transports viewers to Śródka in the 1920s, featuring a vibrant cast of characters that include a rotund butcher, a trumpeter, a cat, and Władysław Odonic, the Duke of all Greater Poland during that era.

What makes this mural particularly impressive is its clever use of three-dimensional illusions, making the artwork appear to rise up as a colorful mirage amidst the quaint village atmosphere of Śródka when approached from the east (tram stop Rondo Śródka).

The idea for the mural was conceived by Gerard Cofta, a long-time Śródka resident.

Artist Radosław Barek then utilized preserved photographs of the old Śródka as inspiration for the concept of painting several houses on the wall using spatial illusions. The mural, titled “The Story of Śródka with a Trumpeter on the Roof and a Cat in the Background,” brings to life the red roofs, colorful facades, and lively atmosphere of the past.

Śródka has always been a unique and historically rich district, with its origins dating back to the 13th century. After a period of decline in the 1960s due to urban development, the area underwent a major revitalization in 2007, transforming it into a hip and bustling neighborhood that attracts crowds every weekend.

The mural, which was painted by a team of four to eight people over a month, has drawn attention not only from Poland but also from around the world. Its images have been featured on prominent websites dedicated to architecture and beyond. This stunning piece of street art has breathed new life into the Śródka district and may inspire similar projects for other buildings in the area.

I could have done better, but between the blowing sand and wind, splashing waves, burning hot sun and the fact I’ve never painted a shark before or painted on a 3 dimensional surface like a rock…. “Sometimes I plan things but for most of the time, I just see something and create it. For example, the shape of the rock was just soo perfect that I didn’t need to think about much. The shark was already there. I just pumped a little life into him/her. So I basically just brought those lines out with a little white and black spray paint,” – Jimmy Swift
