Content warning: JD Vance and the Bluesky relationship
I shouldn't have to explain this, but there is something wrong if people such as JD Vance feel safe enough to register on your social media thing of choice.
In short, JD Vance registered to Bluesky, then was briefly suspended. He's back on there, for now.
My suspicion is more and more brief banning cycles will happen again and JD Vance will be allowed to stay on because of something something users and something something open and thriving community.
Does #Mastodon and the #Fediverse have problems? Oh hell yes, let's not deny that, but I feel like, at least over here, for the most part, instances that hold open the door for folks such as JD Vance are cut off from the rest of us.
The always open era of social media is long since not worth keeping alive. The internet sucks as is, why do we need to add dealing with these people to the mix?
I have my website, and an email address. I don't need to give people access to me on social media.
To preempt the questions, yes I do broadcast to Bluesky from this account, but I don't interact over there. As far as I am concerned, they are just a megaphone for my links and posts over here.
Because Mastodon still hasn't figured this out. Because people hate artists and refuse to give us the funding and support we need so we *don't* have to hustle, this is why you get promotional posts on social media and this is why we promote our work everywhere, not just to platforms you like. Do you get it yet?
