!Friendica Support Does anyone ruin their friendica servers on a virtual machine, or is that a bad idea? I saw a video where they did it but they may have done that just for demo purposes.

Friendica Support reshared this.

@Anubis2814 generally it does not matter if you run something as a VM or on a physical machine. It has many upsides to run VMs, but depending on the config also some downsides.

I run my hosts in VMs.
Ok cool, what VM program do you prefer?
@Anubis2814 that is up to you, to the system the host runs on. There is many solutions. Also plan ahead and consider if it is worth the effort.

I use qemu/KVM on some #linux, but there is surely better setups than mine.
Have always been running it on a VM (KVM on Linux) since 2011. Two years ago I switched to a the docker container (still running on a VM). The VM is currently sized at 4 CPUs / 4 GiB of RAM / 10 GiB disk space (Alpine Linux).
@Adam@Michael Vogel I guess OP meant a self hosted self setup VM, but still VPS are a VM, right. @Anubis2814
