#gamedev folks, what do you think of open-ended games, with no specific goals or ways to "beat" it?

E.g. Rimworld or Factorio have ways to "win" them which are really not why/how most players actually play the game anyway. What if they didn't have a victory condition at all?

@Nikita Lisitsa I want to like them, but I end up quickly doodling and closing it shortly afterwards. I much prefer:
- Delimitated game sessions
- Goal orientated gameplay (in order to progress you have to do X)
- Constraints-oriented gameplay (this time you can't use Y)

Against the Storm (2023) does that wonderfully even as a city-builder and it has sustained my interest way more than several more sandboxy games in the same genre.
