Yes, you can see a placeholder that says the author of the post hid the reply.

Newspapers use Twitter because they rely on engagement to drive traffic and ad sales. In a way they can't not be on Twitter because it is the place to be, regardless of the existence of moderation tools.

And on Friendica there isn't any thread moderation tools accessible to the thread owner that I know of. On Diaspora yes, but not on Friendica. Any third-party content deletion is for you only.
@Hypolite Petovan when you delete a comment on your post then the comment deletion is propagated like with Diaspora.
Ooooh, I didn't know about that. Good to know.
Shouldn't we leave a mention that a comment has been deleted?
The decision that a comment had been removed is up to the thread owner, I think. Additionally I'm unsure whether other AP systems are performing this deletion request.
The decision, yes, but it may induce confusion as people may respond to inexistant comments. If we leave a placeholder that the comment has been deleted and by whom, it would help reduce confusion.
So we wouldn't apply this to the sending, but the receiving part. This is possible.
Great. Is the deletion message including the actor?
Yes. The receiving system has to check if the sender is allowed to delete that item, so we do have that data. We could display something like "The message had been deleted via ...". But I'm not totally sure if this wouldn't encourage some trolls to have the most deleted posts or so.
The trick is to remove the identity of the deleted comment author as well. The placeholder only mentions the existence of a former comment at its former spot in the thread, nothing more.
Maybe it can be made configurable if a placeholder should appear.
It is more work, and we have to store which item were removed by whom regardless of the display setting.
