Has anyone written about #Mastodon access in countries which sometimes block access to social media (e.g. Egypt, Russia, Iran, China, Saudi Arabia, etc)?

It seems to me there's power in the distributed network - making it all but impossible for a government to IP block the entire #Fediverse.

That's an enormous advantage.

I'm a Chinese user (IP in mainland China) and, yes, due to the reason that it would be difficult for gov to completely ban fediverse, some of us is switching to fedi for the promised freedom of speech and no heavy censorship.
Gov did seem to notice us recently and banned several instance sites, but admin just tell us to use another domain. Up till now it's still free access to fediverse for me, but some CN instances need vpn to access, depends on the instance.
