The article says "Sadly it’s not really used yet. Although the French Government is supporting it with a client implementation named Tchap and German Bundeswehr plans to do alike." which doesn't sound reasonable. Matrix is in heavy use and Bundeswehr has been using it for a long time already.
yeah, the article is a bit snitty, but the rest of it is okay.
i DM't the author with some comments and invited him to #matrix:matrix.org for further discussion.
But the usability is still between horrible and very bad. And the specification process is broken. The server is bloated. There's still lot of room for improvement before it could be called "ready for the masses".
could you elaborate on usability issues and the spec process? What is wrong with them? Also i don't think the target audience is the masses as they would use something much simpler. Synapse is being replaced with Dendrite so server bloatness will be fixed soon.
