Hey, new friends from Twitter! Welcome to the #fediverse. <gestures broadly>

Thanks for coming to help us build a rich and varied social network.

If you appreciate having this network to come to, you can show it by:

- sticking around
- posting regularly
- connecting with people
- engaging in conversation

We know you need to talk about Twitter right now. That's OK! But we're more than just an anti-Twitter support group, so make sure to bring more of yourself here.
If you are just getting oriented, there's a well-established way to start building your network here.

1. Add your Mastodon handle to your Twitter bio. That helps people find you here!

2. Use one of these tools to automatically follow your Twitter friends here:

Here are some things we do differently!

- Content warnings -- we use them a lot! Even for things you don't think are a big deal. They are a chance to be considerate to your audience.

- Image captions -- for accessibility. The default here is to use them. It's OK if you forget, but don't make a habit of it.

- Boost *a lot*: boosts are like retweets. We use them a lot more than on Twitter.

- No quote tweets: they're hard to do. There are some workarounds, but it's best to just get used to it.
I am not prepared to give up on Quote Boosts. I want to speak with the manager. #makemastodongreat #newfeatures #fediverse #mastodon
the best thing though, would be to have a server that doesn't strip any metadata on import. Location data could be removed for privacy if users desire, but the headline/description/alt-text tags could be reused if they were included.
I was able to change my handle (for how long I don't know) but not able to link to either mastodon.social or my own instance.

I could still retweet an old post linking over to Mastodon though.
@benx pinning those old posts helps, IIRC
@benx
It's been pinned up there for about a year now 😀
“1. Add your Mastodon handle to your Twitter bio. That helps people find you here!”
... except that as of today, Twitter has banned that ...
3. Run whichever tool a few days later, because more and more people are putting their info in their bio.
