I'm in the mood for some Command & Conquer. My favorites are Red Alert 2 (2000) and Generals (2003). Which one should I go for tonight?

@Vijay Prozak Wow, I was extremely off for the publishing dates. Not sure why I trusted the EA store for the 2012 dates.

@Linux in a Bit 🐧 For some reason I never enjoyed the original Command and Conquer: Red Alert (1996) so its open-source clone is unlikely to tickle my fancy!

Went for Red Alert 2, had a miserable time trying to get it to work correctly in my setup, had to apply three separate fixes:

  1. Run Playnite as an administrator, otherwise RA2Launcher.exe is blocked from executing (by an administrator I should contact???). Use Playnite, it’s good™️.
  2. Fiddle with the RA2.ini configuration file to enable widescreen support and fix low FPS.
  3. Dowload a third-party Direct Draw adapter from a GitHub repository to be able to click on menu buttons as my mouse was hovering the EA launcher window below instead. 😒

@Vijay Prozak I have been running it on Windows 10 after the last time Steam reset the categorization of my library, and I haven't had trouble with it until yesterday where it couldn't start the Red Alert 2 launcher because of the Administrator privileges requirements.
