I enjoy the concept of the Iron Man mode forbidding to load a previous save in #videogames to prevent save-scumming, but I also know I've never come back to any title I've ever lost to during an Iron Man game, so maybe it isn't for me.
Which games did you play like that? And how does it work - you are still allowed to save and load that latest save to catch some sleep once in a while or no loading at all?
When you start an Iron Man mode game, your two only options regarding saves are "Save & Quit" and "Continue Game". No loading an arbitrary save game, no quick saves, no before-a-boss save.

The last instance I played was Hard West by CreativeForge Games. The first couple of mission were so easy that I'd figured I would spice things up. And of course the last fight proved uncharacteristically hard to me, which made me put the game down after the inevitable failure.
I've never really shared the iron man mentality it's just not appealing to me I suppose I'm more of a save scumming mope at heart and giving that up seems odd, so definitely not for me.

I wish more developers gave the option of iron man though as it's nice to see a need filled for some gamers I just wish some developers gave the opposite angle a chance to as it seems some find save scumming a bad thing. I've used game pass for a while now and thank it so much for letting me try some games before getting them as I'd had the banner saga on my wishlists for ages and after trying the first I am so glad I did not buy that as I found it's lack of manual saves infuriating.

It'd be so nice if all developers could give players choice in how they play a game!!
@Draconic Dood That's an interesting angle. I'm coming from a gaming age where first save didn't exist, then you could save a code on a piece of paper to resume a game, then you could only save in particular points, then finally you could save whenever. So it doesn't surprise or bother me when a game, even modern, doesn't offer comprehensive saves.

If anything, the original post reveals that I'm a save-scumming mope as much as you are, I wish I was the kind of person who would enjoy retrying a game filled with tension because of the risk of having to restart. But alas I'm not.
