  • 1 (17%, 187 votes)
  • 2 to 5 (32%, 337 votes)
  • 6 or more (17%, 184 votes)
1050 voters. Poll end: 2 years ago

Evan Prodromou reshared this.

Hosting an instance, does it count? 😁
0 so far, trying to convince some folks though! The #Fediverse "just seems so hard" to a lot of my friends.
i've gone as far as sending personal invites... nah, they are just not interested in fedi
I got in a back door at @mastodon.social . I didn't know, admin had closed it to new people. Until I find an instance for ME & learn HOW to move, I'm not recruiting. I don't know which #Mastodon Instance to suggest.
If you'd recommend a Mastodon instance that I could suggest, I will start recruiting.
@tanyatussing I think https://joinmastodon.org/ is the canonical site for finding a good instance!
@tanyatussing If you're in Canada, I'd suggest our new project, https://cosocial.ca/ . If you're not, maybe try https://social.coop/ . HTH!
Thanks for the suggestions, Evan. I'm not in Canada. I will look into social.coop as a suggestion for friends/twitter connections. And I'll look at joinmastodon.org. I'd love to join Mastodon coop in Texas. And I"m considering looking for a group to sponsor one in Austin. Maybe Lonstar.social ?
Lonestar.social ? Lonestar.coop ?
@tanyatussing you might want to look at https://opencollective.com/ . It's a tool for launching new collectives.
Another good suggestion. Book marked to review later. Thanks so much.
I dragged so many over here, the luxury of having influence πŸ˜…
I'm counting a couple that joined at my invitation but haven't posted (yet, I hope) or changed their profile from default settings (again, yet I hope)
not many . . . so far. Oh, wait, dang I just remembered more. Wish I could change my vote. Still not many, not enough.
I put 2-5 to be conservative but it's probably been more, maybe a lot more.
IMO, someone who has done some extraordinary Fediverse evangelism is @SusanPotter

I stan her so hard! πŸ‘Š
one confirmed, but inactive last I checked. Possibly more but I don't remember
reaaaaaalllly gotta give Elon most of the credit for most of my conversions tbh
not sure how many came from championing Mastodon to @leo (when it was still OStatus) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yp6cD0mHIWw&t=4655s but he's running an instance now.
@vulonkaaz I typically don't provide that kind of specific definition for my polls.
0 mainly because I don't try anymore, I just explain why I do it then people do what they want.

I find it more useful to let people come of their own free will then help them along the way once they're here or if they're planing to go for it.
I don't bring people here. But I help them, when they decide for themselves. 😎
still selling though! They aren't Twitter users so have to be gentle with the hook and use good bait

They've been getting *a lot* of screenshots

Don't want to break the line, hook is set on a couple!

Now that twitter has gone to crap it has made it much easier to refer people to try it out
support for multiple answers question . If I brought 5, does that mean I check 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5?
@ratamacue my UI doesn't have support for multiple answers. Just choose one.
I have no idea. I could say "0" because there's not a single person to whom I personally said "please join" who has joined but I'm sure _some_ people I know who appeared here must have joined thanks to my Mastodon advocacy back on Twitter.
a few of my Birbsite followers have found me here, but I'm claiming no credit
why must evangelism always involve guilt-tripping the believers? πŸ™ƒπŸ˜‚
@timburks how is that related to this question?
just a personal impression based on early life experience - when I was a kid I was offered stars for the number of other kids I brought along with me to Sunday School, Bible camp, etc. It strikes me that viral incentives have always been among us. Anyway, thanks for your work on ActivityPub!
For several years I've been leading horses to this water, but I don't know how many of them have drunk.
But have tried, and failed, to bring many, success only for a few... so far...
Please add another option: "I profoundly dislike the idea of voting for anything over the internet." Which should win.. 'cause.. you know. πŸ˜€
These are interesting results. I did not expect so many people to have brought 1 or more people with them! I also think it's perfectly understandable how many people didn't. The comments have a lot of experience to think about.
