:fediverse: This seems like a good time for us all to remind our friends that this is the Internet, and they don't have to settle for isolated corporate-controlled communication surveillance-gardens that sell privacy for profit. #Facebook #WhatsApp

Do you have any advice on the most effective ways of approaching this topic? Most folks are currently frustrated with me over deleting my Facebook and complain about it being hard to reach me, despite everyone having my number.
Sorry, there is no effective way that I know of, people complaining to you is a pretty good indication they don’t see or care about this particular aspect of social media and as such are unlikely to move to the Fediverse.

When people are ready, they don’t make any difficulty moving over even after a small nudge. It seems to be all or nothing because of the network effect.
That's just it. I wish people would give it some thought.
I believe most of them do, they just don't reach the same conclusions as you and me.
Well actually, I believe it must be a matter of culture. People here aren't exactly thoughtful.
I was surprised to find out it is, Germans for example take privacy way more seriously than people in any other country I’ve heard about.
