absolutely nuts. Hard to describe to someone that hasn't been in.
Imagine a boarding school, summer camp, and prison all melded together, but you also learn to march and handle weapons.
Many parts were grueling and very stressful, but the program forced me to overcome many difficulties. I met some really incredible people, and like a hundred funny things happened every day.
Military Training Instructors have a phenomenal sense of humor, by the way. Some of the scariest / funniest people I've ever met.
I only know drill sergeants from military movies and they aren’t always a fun bunch, glad some of the real ones are able to release some of the inherent tension.
@Hypolite Petovan @deadsuperhero I guess military training differs really much in different countries. In Germany for example you have theoretical lessons at the start. There they tell you which commands you have to follow, which you can follow, which you can complain on the next day and which ones you mustn't follow at all.
The German army training (besides the gun training) is based on teaching the solders to think for themselves and to organise themselves and not blindly follow every order. The german concept is the concept of a "citizen in uniform", which means that there is no separate military judgement. Our concept is - of course - based on our experiences of starting two huge wars with blind obedience of their soldiers.
Awesome, I didn’t know. The US military pretty much is its own state, it has its own state initials, postal codes, courts, health insurance, police, etc...
