Being one of the OGs I am very curious as to why #Friendica isn't nearly as popular as #Mastodon and some of the others? Anyone that know's #Fediverse history and or has been here for a long time I would love to know
@Damon Outlaw There's probably also a dearth of soft skills in the Core Developer Team (which I'm a part of, if it wasn't clear), but mainly a lack of frontend development skill. No fancy frontend for us. @Rabuzarus did a fantastic job giving Friendica its more modern look with the "frio" theme, but it looks like we're going to ride it for a long while.
One of the challenges is that we have more features to care about than other microblogging platforms, so any redesign is an impossibly extensive endeavor. Another is that the design of Friendica that started in 2010 tightly coupled the frontend with the backend, so untangling both now would also be a significant endeavor.
