so on GNU Social we could post to a group by tagging it in a post like !mud@2mb.social is there anything else on the #fediverse like that? hash tags aren’t the same as groups that you have to be invited to or choose to join
Thanks @Tobias I was wondering earlier if I could create my own Friendica forums to handle communication like we used to do in Facebook Groups, but for the life of me I couldn't figure out how to do that. @FediTips claimed that Mobilizon was the #fedi equivelant of Facebook Groups, but it sure seemed more like MeetUp. The Groups there I could invite folks to, but even inviting my alts I never actually saw the inivte anywhere.
yeah, organizing events is only one of many things that Facebook Groups can be used for, but really I am not sure if now-a-days a group can even host a Facebook Event, a profile or page can and then share it to a group (and I think Zuck actually recommnds now that ever page own a group).

But really a Facebook group is more like a forum that happens to be hosted on Facebook and you interact with utilizing a Facebook profile.

Suprises me that you have never used Facebook much, particulalry if I understand correctlyt that you are one of the main devs of friendica, but far the most Facebook-like way to access the fediverse I've seen.

Hence why my friend chose hosting a Friendica instance to be what he finally did with the https://antizuckbook.com URL he bought years ago.
