@Miguela At first I was very impressed by the technique and then β¦ Turns out that these βpaintingβ are AI generated β¦ His hand made works are very different.
Not only AI can mimic any medium, but if you took the time to actually check the artist page you would have seen that this "painting" is a part of a serie made entirely with AI : https://rogerhaus.com/ai-art
And this is how, ladies and gentlemen, we fall together in the post-trust era, where we barely manage to distinguish the false from the true and where counterfeit have reach such a level of realism that nobody have the time nor the energy to check out what is presented in front of our eyes. On top of that, content are shared with the wrong hashtags, do I need to explain why ?
This is really depressing to me.
I don't blame anyone. I'm sure @Miguela just wanted to share something beautiful, which is indeed really beautiful. But ... There is serious moral issues in the sharing and making of AI-generated content.
For who might be interested, I wrote (in french) a really long post on my blog about this matter here.
Not "really" painting but 10 years ago, back then there was this : https://news.microsoft.com/europe/features/next-rembrandt/ I remember when this came out that I was really impressed and a bit worried about the implication of such technology.
As an engineer, I would say it is technically possible to enable AI to paint with brush and do art with any medium or technique. The reason we don't see a lot of those physical things :
There is no market for such fancy things in the era of digital fast-food-content

But yeah, it's not even technically challenging to do something like that for someone skilled with the tech and with the proper hardware.
I think AI art might be legit in some situation AND IF the public understand that what is made is something that came from an AI (right now many AI generated content are not labeled properly).
As I was trying to articulate above, as well as in my long french post, there is what I call an "automation of the culture" where content and cultural items are slowly replaced by algorithmically and politically biased content. This phenomenon is making us bling to our selves and to the real world. There is terrible, terrible implication about this.
You are right, we should do more human stuff. But for who ? Who is paying attention ? What's left in the physical world when everything happen online ?
Being an artist is really harsh and we're all in competition against each other because the economy made us being entrepreneur instead of being actual artist, this is even more true on social media. Most artists are under paid or cannot make a living from what they do. And now, not only human artist are erased from the public space, because of all of the noise generated by AI, but the artists are stolen from their work to fuel AI ...
I could do some real painting, some real stuff. I do that, many other artists are doing that. But who notice us, when all our attention is driven to fake art like the stuff done by Roger Haus ? And even beyond that, everything done as a good deed would be stolen anyway ...
I'm not blaming you, or anyone, but well ... yeah ... Depressing as I said ...
A list of some of the most prominent examples of artists and tech companies bringing unique art into the real world with the help of computer intelligence.
Well, we are. And more of us should work harder to make people aware of the AI threat to human understanding and human art. The #maker movement is already strong, and well aligned with this additional impetus.

•AI can mimic any medium,
Digitally, yes, but not (yet) in the physical object.
