Is it becoming difficult to side with Free Software *without* also APPEARING to approve of any particular individual or ALL the decisions of one organization?

I think I prefer a paring knife approach over a meat cleaver or hatchet.

The simple fact that there exists organizations and particular individuals means that yes, people will have feelings about them. Even "siding with Free Software" is incredibly ambiguous given the complexity of the philosophical, technical and legal questions around it, so "side with Free Software" is definitely a meat cleaver phrase in this context.
