.... still not super satisfied with my color concept for the later #oilpainting
I really don't know what is missing here but the flower is still to heavy.

some digital color on a pencil sketch of a bloom which grows on top of a skull.
Maybe a stronger keylight on the flower; it would create more contrast and deeper casted shadows. I'm a big fan of transludence, so playing with how light got transformed in saturated red after going threw the petals looks like a good opportunity to inject some vivid accents in the darkest shadows.
All in all, I would just check the basic: contrast of values, contrast of saturation, contrast of shapes, contrast of warm/cold, etc... I hope it will give you a random clue to continue it.
@davidrevoy thanks for the detailed hints.
I will give it a try after walking my stubborn dog xD

@davidrevoy ok, I really tried to consider your points in the painting but I'm too noob it still looks so smudgy.

--> rage quit

But thanks again a ton for your comments, those will be helpful in my next try.

I don't believe it for a second 😉

Here is a quick proposal paint-over of what I had in mind if I had to manage the light. Your last iteration (last screenshot) went well in this direction, just the shading of the flowers that could IMO receive a bit more contrast between light key and shadows. And casted shadows. Feel free to pick what you want in this paint-over, and if you dislike seeing the paint over, ask me and I'll delete this message. Good luck!

The same crop, but with paint-over modification on the top and various light and contrast proposal

@davidrevoy

Thanks a lot 😃
Adding contrast between top and bottom of the pedals makes it so much vivid.

I can also see, that you achieve it by adding saturation with a slight hue change and not just reducing value, like I did.
