Luis Arencibia’s deep connection to the ocean began in his youth.

As a boy, he swam to the very volcanic rock that now serves as Neptune’s throne. Decades later, his vision gave rise to this iconic sculpture, allowing the god of the sea to keep watch over his watery kingdom. Melenara Beach, with its fine volcanic sand, calm waters, and ever-present sun, serves as a fitting home for this magnificent work of art.

This statue is more than just a tribute to the mythical god—it’s a symbol of Gran Canaria’s heritage. It reflects the islanders’ relationship with the sea, shaping their history, culture, and daily lives. Visitors to Melenara Beach can marvel at this timeless creation while soaking in the peaceful surroundings of a place where land and ocean meet in perfect harmony.

Luis Arencibia, a native of Telde, Gran Canaria, was the son of muralist José Arencibia Gil. His life and work reflect a blend of artistic genius and a commitment to social change.

1. The Statue of King Arthur, located in Tintagel, England, is a striking bronze sculpture by artist Rubin Eynon.

Erected in 2016, this statue stands on the cliffs of Tintagel Castle, a site steeped in Arthurian legend. The sculpture, named “Gallos” (meaning “power” in Cornish), depicts a cloaked and crowned King Arthur holding his sword, with his body appearing to merge with the landscape.

2. Albert György’s sculpture, Melancholy, captures the emptiness left by grief.

3. Christ of the Abyss is an extraordinary bronze statue created by Guido Galletti in 1954.

This unique piece rests on the seabed of the Mediterranean Sea, nestled between Camogli and Portofino on the Italian Riviera. Submerged beneath the azure waters, it continues to captivate divers and visitors with its serene and mystical presence.
4. This colossal sculpture was created nearly 450 years ago by Flemish sculptor Giambologna as a symbol of Italy’s Apennine mountains. Standing at nearly 14 meters (45 ft) tall, it was commissioned by Francesco de Medici, the Grand Duke of Tuscany, in 1579.

Positioned above a pond, the statue features a chamber in its head where Francesco would sit and fish at night. When a fire was lit inside, the Colossus’s eyes glowed red, and smoke billowed from its nostrils, creating a striking visual effect.

5. The Christ the Redeemer statue, standing atop Corcovado Mountain in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, is one of the world’s most recognizable landmarks.

This 30-meter (98 ft) tall statue, with arms stretching 28 meters (92 ft) wide, overlooks the city, symbolizing peace and welcoming all with open arms. Completed in 1931 and designed by French sculptor Paul Landowski and Brazilian engineer Heitor da Silva Costa, it has become a symbol of Christianity around the globe and an enduring image of Brazil.

6. Not the most amazing statue, but definitely an amazing story. In Istanbul, Turkey, they made a statue to honor the famous stray cat (Tombili) that used to sit in this position and watch the passers by.

One month after its installation the sculpture went missing. A comment from Turkey MP Tuncay Özkan: “They stole the Tombili statue. They are enemies of everything beautiful. All they know is hate, tears and war”. The statue was safely returned a short time later. More photos here.
7. This eagle sculpture is the world’s largest bird statue, created by Indian artist Rajiv Anchal.

Located at Jatayu Earth’s Center in Kerala, India, the sculpture took a decade to complete. Spanning 200 feet in length, 150 feet in width, and 70 feet in height, this colossal work of art depicts the mythical eagle Jatayu from the Indian epic, Ramayana.

In 2004, a fence was erected around the grave to prevent this practice, but public protest led to its removal. Victor Noir’s grave remains one of the most visited and talked-about monuments in Père-Lachaise.

Djoels: A few months ago, I enrolled in a sort of selection round to be able to do a mural in the Basque Country. Out of the (more than) 400 applications, 2 artists were chosen: one artist from Gran Canaria and Djoels. We were given a 13-meter-high by 8-meter-wide wall to work on. For 5 days, we were given a tour, information, and the opportunity to get to know the town. It’s a harbor town surrounded by mountains, slightly bigger than Egem but with a similar mentality. Everyone knows everyone, and stories spread quickly. People take care of each other, and history is kept alive.

Gabriel, my model, a retired kind man with a characterful gaze, stood out to me the most. He spent his life at sea, months away from home catching fish. I heard thrilling stories, including those of women and children who stayed on the mainland, fearing whether their father would return safely. Now he makes miniature boats. A true artist!

Every day, I ate fish, learned how to clean and prepare fresh fish. I walked in the harbor and then in the mountains. I tasted the food they made on the boats when they were away from home for months, sometimes with only 3 ingredients. And yet, it was delicious!

For two weeks, I lived like most people here, adopting a sort of integrated intermittent fasting, taking siestas, and enjoying pintxos (local tapas). I quickly adapted to the lifestyle here, but I still miss my home, my dog, and my loved one immensely!

I think after reading this, the work speaks for itself. Now, I just need to enjoy Bilbao a little longer, and then I’ll head back home on Saturday, towards my steak with fries and the West Flemish language.

Fabián Bravo Guerrero about the mural: Swallows represent respect, love and fidelity, they are migratory birds, which usually migrate to Africa, that’s why I chose to paint them here in Casablanca, the almond flowers, makes the swallows stand out more.

I decided to paint the background with Arab tiles, and turquoise, white and reddish color’s, in tribute to the “Hassan II Mosque” (the second largest in the world) that was near the mural.

This is what the mural is about.

In it, we see a teenage girl climbing a staircase toward the moon, which shines brightly and illuminates the entire scene.
The moon represents everything the girl has dreamed of.
She wants to reach it—like we all do—but she’s carrying a heavy backpack: filled with insults, rejection, fear, loneliness…

And how will her story end?

On one hand, the girl might reach her goals thanks to the help she receives after her bullying case becomes known.
On the other hand, she might not make it. The weight of her backpack is so heavy that it throws off her balance, and she can’t reach her destination.

With this, I aim to reflect the internal struggle faced by those experiencing bullying, highlighting the importance of offering support—before the weight becomes too much to bear.

This is a collection of Street Art by Bordalo II.

ABOUT: Artur Bordalo (Lisbon, 1987) uses the artist name Bordalo II, which he chose as a tribute to his grandfather, the painter Real Bordalo, in order to promote a continuity and reinvention of his artistic legacy.

His youth took place between the hours spent in the studio of his grandfather Real Bordalo, who had an incessant passion for watercolors and oils and portrayed landscapes and typical scenes of the city, and the adventures around illegal graffiti in the underworld of the city of Lisbon.

He attended the Painting course at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Lisbon for eight years, without ever having completed it, but says that these years allowed him to discover sculpture, ceramics, and to experiment with a variety of materials that have distanced him from painting, which had taken him there in the first place.

The public space would become the chosen stage for his explorations of color and scale and the platform where he gradually transformed his habits and channeled his experiences in the construction and development of his artistic work, which is currently focused on questioning the materialistic and greedy society of which he is (also) part.

The excessive production and consumption of stuff, which results in the continuous production of “garbage” and consequently in the destruction of the Planet, are the central themes of his production. This “garbage” assumes itself as the unusual and unique raw material that Bordalo uses in the construction of small and large scale pieces that he has spread around the world and that, above all, intend to be the vehicle of a universal manifesto.

The Nerja cave in Spain is perhaps one of the most amazing caves in Spain. It is huge and people used to live there thousands of years ago. Scientists found cave paintings, human bones, and even evidence that around the same time cave hyenas lived there too. In the cave it is the largest formation of stalactites in the world measuring around 32 meters.

This was such a mindblowing experience for us, it is hard to showcase the immensity of it and uniqueness in a video or photos. We were also able to get in there for free.

What is funny is that we are in the mountains in spain with our TROMhome and we had no clue about any of these. We are fully offgrid in terms of power.

We have lots of solar panels, enough batteries, and satellite internet. So we are all good.

Perhaps we are indeed ready for an apocalypse. Waiting for it here in Picos de Europa 😀

We visited for free this amazing cave. I think it has the tallest formation of stalactites in the world. 32 meters.

There are people in these photos if you look carefully 😁

In this care there were people living some 25.000 years ago. Nuts! And cave hyenas. And they discovered cave paintings there that could be the oldest in all human species history, some 42.000 years ago made by Neanderthals. But still they need to confirm this.

I think if I lived 678 years I would never get bored and I would have new projects to do all the time. I feel like I want to do a lot. And I do a lot every day, but the days are too short for my motivation and drive. The weeks, the months, are flying by so fast. The years, still more ahead than behind, but soon they will balance, and then you'll ride the ones ahead. But it's all about making the best of this ride, even tho too short.

This year we have a motorhome, very little money, and a lot of plans.

We now have a Wishlist for our TROMhome project because we are broke and if anyone wants to help they can directly do so. Here https://tromhome.com/#wishlist

For example we need to put a satellite dish (a Starlink Mini) so that I can keep our servers updated, do backups, upload our TROMjaro ISOs from the middle of nowhere, and in general be available online to help with the TROM projects. We need it specifically for my work on TROM.

So if anyone can help we have a GoFundMe for it https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-us-get-a-satellite-internet-dish (450 Euros). I hate that they are putting satellites into the orbit, but we have no better option in Europe. The monthly fee of 72 Euros is also gigantic for us, but again I need an unlimited Internet access...

We put 260W of solar panels on the roof and connected them to our Bluetti AC180. And we had to do part of it in the dark.

If the "authorities" are worried that children watch too much porn and these kids then try to porn-themselves-out for pleasure, causing issues since they don't understand that most porn is fake, then for sure forcing people to verify their age when accessing some porn websites will make these kids think twice before accessing any of the millions of worldwide porn websites....

How about you make the life of kids, and people overall, more relaxing? How about you don't force the kids to go to school and parents to go to work, just to survive? Maybe if people were to be more "free" and have time to learn about the world, to have fun, to establish relationships and not wo

I love stumbling upon art that feels like a hidden gem—those incredible sculptures that stop you in your tracks and make you wonder, “How did I not know this existed?”

1. The Statue of King Arthur, located in Tintagel, England, is a striking bronze sculpture by artist Rubin Eynon.

2. Albert György’s sculpture, Melancholy, captures the emptiness left by grief.

3. Christ of the Abyss is an extraordinary bronze statue created by Guido Galletti in 1954.
