The Fediverse is a large, decentralised social network that continues to grow. Since its beginnings in 2008, text-based platforms such as StatusNet, Friendica and Mastodon have dominated. In this session, we’re going to take a look at what’s out there in the network that’s beyond just text. Starting with well-known video and image-sharing services such as Peertube and Pixelfed, we will explore other projects and the opportunities they offer creative podcasters, streamers and 3d artists.

Decided to pontificate on the impending ban of Tiktok in the US, while many, many other data-harvesting and spying apps, like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, and all the other mainstream platforms, continue to endanger and exploit everyone. Moral of the story: mainstream corporate owned platforms will ALWAYS betray you--stop giving them unilateral power over your online existence, and self-host your content on decentralized platforms like Mastodon, Peertube, and/or your own web server, THEN link to your content on the mainstream apps. You'll rest so much easier if you're not constantly living on the knife edge of potentially getting obliterated by a couple of algorithmic ones and zeroes, designed by misogynistic, transphobic, racist, patriarchal, capitalist tech bros!!
