The Gray World of 2050: A Tale of Restricted Art and Self-Expression
My son, have you ever heard of something strange?
“Yes, tell me!” my son exclaimed with excitement.
“You know the new tree painting we did on the garage last week? Well, up until around the year 2050, it was not common for people to have paintings on their houses. Can you imagine that?”
“What? Were all the houses just gray?” my son asked in disbelief.
“Many of them were. People would usually paint their houses in one solid color, like blue or yellow, but it was rare to see more than one or two colors and almost never any pictures. Most apartment buildings, government buildings, and other structures were gray. Artists would sometimes go and paint on tunnels or grey municipal buildings, but their paintings would eventually be washed away by the government.”
“Was art forbidden?” my son asked, wide-eyed.
“Not exactly, but it had to be confined to specific buildings only. Some people believed that houses should not be painted with anything other than pale, solid colors. It was quite a dull and restrictive society.”
“Wow,” my son said, “that’s so boring.”
“Yes, my son, it was. But now, we have the freedom to express ourselves and add color and beauty to our surroundings. Now, let’s put on our jackets and go pick some fruit.”

Exploring the Significance of Street Art: Why it Matters:
As an artist, I know firsthand how important self-expression is. For me, street art is one of the most powerful mediums to accomplish that. Because street art is often created outside of traditional art institutions, it allows us as artists to bypass gatekeepers and create work that is not constrained by gallery or museum regulations.
But street art is so much more than just self-expression. It’s also a powerful tool for making social and political commentary. As street artists, we frequently use our art to bring attention to issues like injustice, inequality, and poverty. Street art has the power to spark change by bringing attention to these important issues.
Not only that, but street art can also play an important role in community-building. It can help revitalize neighborhoods and give locals a sense of pride and ownership. And as someone who’s lived in many different communities, I’ve seen firsthand how powerful this can be.
And lastly, street art is an important form of cultural expression. It reflects the values, beliefs, and aspirations of the communities in which it’s created. It can be used to celebrate and preserve cultural history, as well as advance inclusivity and diversity.
Street art is an incredibly powerful and important form of self-expression, social and political commentary, community-building, and cultural expression. It plays a vital role in shaping our cities and communities.

Street artists in and outside of Ukraine are using their art as a form of resistance against the Russian invasion and occupation. Through their powerful and emotive work, they are giving voice to the experiences and aspirations of those affected by the war. They are providing a powerful reminder that art can play an important role in the struggle for justice and human rights.

The legacy of Miss. Tic: French Street Artist who used Art for Social Change
Miss. Tic 20.02.1956 — 22.05.2022. Miss. Tic was a French street artist who is known for her stencils of dark-haired women that can be found in the streets of Paris. Her work is often associated with poetry, as many of her stencils include text that is often thought-provoking and evocative. Miss. Tic began her career as a street artist in 1985, and has since become one of the most recognizable and respected figures in the French street art scene.
One of the things that sets Miss. Tic apart from other street artists is her use of stencils. She often used the same stencil repeatedly, but with subtle variations, to create a sense of continuity and familiarity in her work. This technique allows her to convey a powerful message with a minimal amount of visual clutter.
In addition to her street art, Miss. Tic is also known for her activism and her commitment to using art as a tool for social and political change. She has often used her art to comment on issues such as gender inequality, racism, and poverty.
Over the years, Miss. Tic has gained a devoted following of fans who appreciate her unique style, powerful messages, and the way she has helped to shape the landscape of street art in Paris. This 2,000-year-old mosaic unearthed in Antakya is the world’s largest, extending over 9,000-square-foot (about 850 square meters)! Truly an astonishing sight.
A beautiful well preserved mosaic was discovered while digging between vineyards near Northern Italian city of Verona, The mosaics dates back to around 250-400 AD and probably once was part of an ancient Roman villa.

Simpsons!: This bus stop in Brazil, before and after an artist added their touch
In the bustling city of Campo Grande, Brazil, an abandoned bus stop has been revived and reimagined by DUUDOOR, an innovative artist collective consisting of father and son duo, Ernando Jacques Sanches and Eduardo Fernando Savala Sanches.
The pair had been on a hiatus from art, seeking inspiration and motivation to return to creating. When some friends showed them a project where a local artist had infused new life into a bus stop with Simpsons-themed art in Porto Murtinho, they knew they had found their muse.Excited by the idea of not only creating art but also revitalizing neglected urban spaces, DUUDOOR set to work on their own bus stop project. What emerged was not just an aesthetic transformation of an ordinary space, but a demonstration of the power of art to spark joy and community engagement.

After completion, they reflected on the gratifying experience of witnessing the impact of their art. It was a reminder of art’s power to transform and inspire. Rejuvenating forgotten corners of the city with art, DUUDOOR’s project is a testament to the transformative power of creativity. Their initiative invites us all to imagine how we might use our own talents to breathe life into spaces around us. It’s a powerful example of how art can not only beautify a space but also bring together a community.

Born in 1987 in Kirovskoye, a small town in the Donetsk region of Ukraine, Korban began his artistic journey by doing graffiti in his hometown during the early 2000s. Korban’s artistry truly blossomed when he moved to Kyiv, where he started to develop his unique style by blending elements of realism, symbolism, and abstraction.
Sasha Korban’s work has been featured in numerous national and international street art festivals, including Mural Social Club, Art United Us, and Mural Istanbul. His artwork graces the walls of cities across Europe and beyond, from Kyiv and Moscow to Istanbul and Paris.

Sasha Korban: ‘’სიყვარულით” which translates to “with love” in Georgian. In Georgia, this mural is referred to as “ბებოს” meaning “grandma”. However, this mural represents the very essence of love. The love that saturates our everyday lives, manifesting through the small acts of kindness from our loved ones or even their mere presence. Unfortunately, we often take this love for granted, assuming it to be the natural order of things, and we sometimes overlook the beauty of life’s simpler moments.
In addition to his incredible talent as a muralist, Korban is also a socially conscious artist, often using his work to raise awareness about pressing issues such as the ongoing war in Ukraine.
His art is a reminder of the resilience of the human spirit and our collective ability to overcome adversity.

Break the Circle
Sasha Korban: The best safeguard against domestic violence is the confidence of women in their unconditional value and dignity. And now in Mykolaiv, Ukraine you can see my new mural “Embrace yourself”, that reminds: every woman deserves happiness.
The image of a girl gently hugging her shoulders refers to a psychological method used in therapy for women who have experienced domestic violence. This simple action helps you to feel safe and regain contact with your body.
The mural has created with support of UNFPA Ukraine as a part of an information campaign “Break the Circle” in collaboration with Sky Art Foundation. Its creation is timed to the worldwide campaign “16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence”. Embrace yourself and your loved ones. And remember, that you deserve to be respected and to be happy simply because you exist.
Finding a good balance in life
Sasha Korban: This mural supports the idea of finding a good balance in life. The young fragile girl reflects the human’s internal harmony together with the joy of existence. A bunch of chairs is a metaphor for the world’s chaos and the diversity of different moments we all go through – positive, tragic, happy and sad. They make us balance and find the harmony. The project is organized by International Human Rights Organization Truth Hounds

True Hope
Sasha Korban: It is the fourth year of war in my country. There are thousands of broken hearts and lost beloved ones, ruined families, injured bodies and souls. Milana is a six-year-old girl who faced the war three years ago. But she was stronger than any war. Her little and yet brave heart conquered everything. I have dedicated my piece to Milana as I do believe she is a real symbol of the true hope.
Sasha Korban: The curator of the festival Besik M while he was inviting me, said, “We have a special wall for you, opposite the Russian embassy’s building.” (correctly speaking, it was the Russian Federation Interests Section at the Embassy of Switzerland in Tbilisi).
Yes, yes, and I made a mural there. I portrayed a Ukrainian woman in a traditional embroidered shirt holding a huge bouquet of wildflowers with ears of wheat. She is proud and full of light. She looks straight ahead, with a barely noticeable smile, to all the obstacles and fears in the eyes.
It symbolizes our strength, inner energy, freedom and will. Despite the terrible and cruel war, we, as a nation, will endure, become even stronger, and we will live! There were several situations when people from the opposite building tried to stop me from working on the mural just because the Ukrainian was drawing there
Harmony and Balance
[b]Sasha Korban: [/b]With this symbolic artwork I have been trying to show an importance of the harmony and balance in everything, and most importantly to find it inside oneself.

Born in Damaia, Portugal, in 1976, Sérgio ‘Odeith’ first picked up a spray can in the mid-1980s, painting signatures and doodles on his neighborhood walls. It wasn’t until the mid-1990s that he encountered graffiti artists in Carcavelos, where the movement was gaining momentum. This sparked a passion for graffiti that led him to paint illegally on street walls and railway lines in and around Lisbon.
Odeith’s impressive evolution as an artist is due in part to his dedication to painting large-scale murals in various neighborhoods throughout Damaia, Carcavelos, and Amadora. Although he dropped out of school at the age of 15 and never received any formal art training, Odeith’s talent for drawing and his relentless self-taught approach to his craft led him to become the renowned artist he is today.
In 2003, Odeith adopted his current moniker, and by 2005, his innovative use of the anamorphosis technique began garnering international recognition. This “Somber 3D” style, as he later called it, involves painting on 90-degree corners or flat walls to create authentic, large-scale compositions of insects or objects that give a striking 3D optical illusion effect. Many of these works, painted in abandoned spaces, quickly went viral due to their realism and technique.
Odeith briefly lived in London after closing his tattoo shop in 2008, but he has since returned to Lisbon, where he now focuses exclusively on studio work and walls. Despite his lack of formal training, Odeith has become a pioneering force in the world of street art, with his dark anamorphic style and passion for the craft setting him apart from other artists.
