“Don’t use Spotify” rings pretty hollow to me from someone who also admits preferring to buy their music on records, CDs and downloads.
It’s easier to tell people to stop doing something when you didn’t have to go through the migration to an alternative. 😞

•@Hypolite Petovan Migration always comes at a cost. Not sure there is any streaming service that treats niche artists well. In german there is the term of "jäger und sammler" (hunter and collector). I really dig the idea of my own music library. Not only is it unique to my taste but also a reflection of the development of my taste throughout my life.
Big sd cards allow to easily take my entire music collection with me without requiring any streaming service. And if I want streaming, #Jellyfin is a nice solution.
Not usre in which context you wrote this post. There was some media reports about spotify treating small artists even worse than they already did (ger: https://www.heise.de/news/Spotify-schliesst-kleine-Kuenstler-und-White-Noise-von-Einnahmen-aus-9344679.html).

•@Wilhelm Yep, that was the context in which this person I shall not name made this comment.
The great thing about Spotify is that it made me discover new artists, including niche, without having to wade through the catalog myself through the automated Discover Weekly playlist. As a result, I have a sizable list of individual tracks I enjoy for which owning the rest of the album would be a waste of space. And if I had to buy them individually, it would have cost me several years of Spotify subscription. Maybe that’s why Spotify is reducing its payouts. I may not mind paying more myself, but accessing tracks without paying for them is an absolute must.
And then there’s the “family sharing” aspect. We currently share a subscription with my partner and she doesn’t listen to the same stuff as I do, so I would also have to handle the purchase of her tracks if we go the Jellyfin route.
