!Friendica Support is there still a working way to embed Twitter/Nitter links in #Friendica so there is a preview shown? Do I need to change some setting or use some special bb code?

The link preview works here. I just tried it. The preview is fetched via the node's Twitter connector.

You should look for error messages related to Twitter in your Friendica log. Maybe your nodes's connector app has been restricted by Twitter or has some other issue.

@utzer I disabled the twitter addon and then enabled it again, now it works again with the preview.
