I have two cats, one Siamese and one gray / tabby mix, and baths are never something I relish but I acquired something off of Amazon that has made it infinitely less painful, cat gloves. These are leather gloves that go nearly up to elbow that are sufficiently thick that cat claws don't penetrate.
All of mine don't fight back much even if they are clearly displeased. This one doesn't even mind washing much as long as it lasts less than 10-15 minutes. So bare hands are fine.
Drying them is the real challenge. Injuries are not likely but these things are loud and hard to hold.
