Evan Prodromou reshared this.

I like trains when they aren't fill to capacity, filled with drunk people, or filled to capacity with drunk people. (Riding CALTRAIN after a ball game let out has left a bit of a dark mark on my psyche.)
is be curious to see the geographic breakdown here.
I love trains and I’m even the type that fell in love with Penn Station in NY back in the day (for the freedom not for any of the ambience). I love commuter trains, Amtrak trains, and European trains to name a few. However, I will tell you living near Caltrain is v v loud (I can’t wait until it is fully electric).
YES MORE TRAINS PLEASE
@slothrop

In Hungary trains are filthy, broken down (eg. no AC), crowded, you have too stand due to no free places, they are almost never on time, and often slow. (There are few exceptions, international and main lines, others are living nightmare.)
Can't guess what's to like.
the rail system here in the US ... leaves a lot to be desired. But the idea of functional mass transit is deeply appealing
Where is "YES! in principle but HELL NO as implemented"?
argh, i chose "strong yes" but somehow I turned it into "strong no" before voting. Need poll vote edit 😁
I genuinely love how predictable the results of an #EvanPoll are.
trains > cars; for any country infrastructure
Trains in themselves aren't particularly interesting to me; they are just appliances.

The likability factor, for me, are in the details of their operation.
Used to, in appropriate circumstances. But I haven't seen any offering guaranteed zero covid journeys[#], so not any more.

[#] With the possible exception of car transporting trains where you stay in your car throughout.
trains are the best
I used to have a freight train obsession 😅 https://www.graffiti.org/fr8/trains/j/jait/index.html
I don’t know it it counts, but I was a four year old girl with a train themed room only to become a 30 something year old non binary person that thinks “Oh everyone watches train YouTube videos on repeat” and purchasing tickets to spend NYE at a train station is perfectly normal! 😂
I do like trains, but I really love train games. I love #18xx board games, like #cuberail board games, love #AgeOfSteam, like the occasional crayon rail, like #TransportTycoon and really love #RailroadTycoon.

Big soft spot for Steam trains, particularly.
I've got a soft spot for it - but I really love the financial aspects of those games combined with the route building. A decent chunk of those games there have stock markets - or at least needing to plan to make sure your route is profitable.

(And, one particularly 18XX game '1830' is subtitled 'Railroads and Robber Barons', and enabled the historically interesting, though in real life unethical, weird things that US railroad barons did to steal personal wealth from their shareholders)

Nothing by I Like Trains? A missed opportunity, I feel!
I hope we can promote trains without promoting companies which support the DMCA
@Evan Prodromou I own a tee-shirt that reads "I like trains" with the character from the asdfmovie song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hHkKJfcBXcw
I guess we mostly like trains!

If you like trains but don't like how they work in your country, tell your politicians and help make our rail travel infrastructure work for everyone.

Rail travel is a crucial part of the Transition. #TrainsNotPlanes
Do you have a letter template? "Dear Senator Warren, I like trains. I would love train infrastructure to get better. Thank you, Dave Nearly, your constituent."
@dneary Ha! I recommend joining me as a member of the Rail Passengers Association. They're a lobbying group for getting more and better passenger rail, run by and for rail passengers!

I like my template 😀 But I am interested in a NE Corridor High Speed Rail option!
I like trains, and want to see more/better/cheaper trains, but I live in a place where the geography makes them utterly impractical for international travel. (Scotland: is long and narrow and 700-1000km north of the Channel Tunnel—you *can* get from Edinburgh to Paris by train but it'll take you longer than flying across the Atlantic, and cost more. And that's *with* already-existing high speed rail! The alternative is a ferry, which will take 12-24 hours.)
I gained a particular fascination after riding the French ones last year. What an amazing experience
