Most of my career has been at companies where intellectual property (IP) was really important.

If another organization had some claim on your code or designs or other output, that was a big problem.

So, exclusive employment was the norm. No side gigs, no entanglements.

I've been surprised how much laxer non-profits are with this issue. A lot of the people I meet consult on the side or have other side hustles.
