Wooden cards that can be laser engraved, or painted as membership cards, door opening devices.

I feel like these could be used for some kind of interesting board game, or puzzle device. Though why can't a keycard ID be a little carved wooden object? Feels very magical...

"Though why can't a keycard ID be a little carved wooden object? Feels very magical..."

This made me think about the trend about 15 years ago for people in London to remove the RFID chip from their Oyster public transport payment cards and attach them to other objects. I gather that it started with people attaching them to watches as a sort of forerunner to smart watches, but the most notable examples were magic wands and wizard staffs. Reported sightings of people wearing wizard hats and capes walking up to ticket barriers at London Underground stations and, with great ceremony, tapping their wand/staff on the RFID reader to open the gates went viral at the time.
