πŸ”₯New report shows how Big Tech has watered down the Artificial Intelligence Act.

❌ AI systems have trapped people in poverty, enabled workers surveillance and racially discriminated people.

We should not let Big Tech get away this time

🧡
The report shows Big Tech has used all the lobbying tricks in the book to water down the #AIAct.

πŸ•΄οΈ Used shady groups to lobby on its behalf
πŸ’΅ Funded academics and think tanks
πŸ‘₯ Pushed its agenda through a crucial expert group
πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ Mobilized the US government to lobby the EU
🀝 The report documents more than a 1000 meetings between interest groups and member of the @EUparliament on the #AIAct

56% of those meetings were with industry while only 13% were with civil society.
Big Tech heavily lobbied for self-assessments and a narrow definition of AI.

πŸ‘Ž Crucially, industry is on the brink of successfully pushing any rules on general purpose AI into the future, excluding AI systems such as Chat GPT from regulation.
❌ The Council is pushing for problematic exceptions for law enforcement and national security.

This allows the use of extremely harmful AI systems against people on the move.

#ProtectNotSurveil
The #AIAct is now moving to the secretive trilogue negotiations which tends to benefit well-funded lobbyists πŸ•΅οΈβ€β™‚οΈ

Let’s not permit Big Tech to kill the AI act in the dark.

@Corporate Europe Observatory BTW - could you supplement your website with information/logo/link-here that it is possible to follow what you are doing also outside the #corpomedia ?
