If you want to establish a reputation in your field, and influence the discourse, there's no greater opportunity than doing it on Mastodon in 2022.

The network is growing exponentially. People on the network crave good content that reflects their interests. There are a lot of gaps that need filling!

Is it harder to use and manage than other platforms? Yes. That's your competitive advantage. If you can crack it before others do, you can reap the rewards.

If you wait, you'll miss out.
Despite (or because of?) having been here for 5+ years, I've been not as optimistic about it. Until now.

Recently though I've reconsidered my position, I can foresee mastodon legit turning into a bunch of connected old forum-type websites (in a good way!). Like, reddit, but if it was federated, and every community managed their own instance.
@rooneel possibly. I think it's more likely that interest groups work as specialised structures on the network, like in https://a.gup.pe/
You can be the type of person who says, "Nobody else is doing it!" and waits until it's too late.

Or you can be the type of person who says, "Nobody else is doing it!" and seizes the opportunity.
I second that. Never had as much feedback on my #MTB #Photos as I had in the last couple of weeks here.
I don't even think it's really any harder than the others, as long as you don't have to run a server.
