I'm quick to "brag" about #Portugal, but this stupid propaganda visit by the Pope (aligned with hosting "World Youth Day" is a TERRIBLE use of resources for a country with many more pressing needs.
"Estimated to cost β¬161 million ($177 million), the papal visit will be paid for by the Portuguese government, the city councils of Lisbon and neighboring Loures, and the Catholic Church. The governmentβs share is estimated to be around β¬30 million ($33 million)."
Add to it the fanatical cult-like "pilgrims" coming to Portugal to "meet" the Pope, marching in the streets and discarding their trash everywhere, and this is a nightmare week for Portuguese residents, especially in Lisbon, like us.
You're telling me that tens of millions of Euros couldn't be better spent on parks, low to zero interest loans to citizens for home renovations/repair to solve the housing availability crisis, infrastructure repair, etc?
Just terrible. (end of rant)
