It doesn't particularly matter if your Mastodon friends are on Friendica, since you can follow them from Friendica (see Contacts page, there should be a place in the left sidebar to paste handles to follow people). They're part of the same fediverse. Only issue is that Mastodon supports some things Friendica doesn't (polls) and vice versa (titles, quote shares, Diaspora federation).

I haven't tried it yet but there does seem to be a tool for migration from another ActivityPub (i.e. Mastodon or Pleroma) server in settings.
