@Adam Hunt what are your plans, because the closing of diasp.org is soon right?
Everyone is welcome on my pod, but it would be nice if diasp.org was still up when the migration can take place. We are basically "only" missing https://github.com/diaspora/diaspora/pull/8461 but no one is reviewing it

@Fla Thanks for asking.

D* pods are now closing so fast and the number active users dropping, that I don't see it as worth the time investment to pod hop with all the set-up and finding old contacts etc. I am just not convinced D* will be around for much longer and even if a few pods survive there will be few users left.

I'm now on Bluesky and have connected with most of my friends from here there already, plus have found my city government, councillors, provincial and federal politicians, other agencies and more there. You can find me at:

@Fla
This shows why corporate owned social media breeds success. Maybe if Bluesky ever has a second server I'll look it up.
There are already a number of private servers showing up on the network.
I just hope they don't act like D* pods and all fold up, stranding users. At least with the AT protocol and the software you can pod hop and take your data with you on Bluesky.
Adam : I don't know why you didn't consider to move to Mastodon (and Fediverse), instead ? You explained somewhere but i don't know where. On your blog ?
Thanks Adam.
It's nice that you have been able to found again your D* friends there
I hope a bridge will be possible between AT Protocol and Activity Pub.
I don't know why BlueSky didn't work on that. They came after Mastodon and they have the money.
We will see how Bluesky will evolve regarding the privacy issues (censorship, backdoors) , the cost of the infrastructure and ads.
in fact, Diaspora's protocol is not activity-pub.
The best way would have been to Diaspora to be on Zot (Hubzilla Protocol), but I don't think that the way around
The main thing is you find a network that works for you . I only got onto social media in s big way with G plus although i was on Twitter. I'm not a big enough deal to get invitations to networks ahead of time, so it made sense for me to jump to Mastodon. My instant server is 3 hours east of me in Canada and Mastodon is a non-profit out of the EU, so, i'm pretty happy with my decision.
To all users on pods which are closing, don't forget to download your posts and photos archives, I'm planing to enable an early version of the migration import on https://diaspora-fr.org so that you can move with your contacts and posts if you wish to.

…unless you are on a pod like diasp.org where most of your old photos were deleted from the server long ago as a space-saving measure …
