your followers are so incredibly unrepresentative of the average American
I don't. Why do you ask?
@11z because I have a particular answer personally and I'm wondering if I'm an outlier.
I sometimes have a ginger beer or a Limonata but I pretty much never drink coke, etc.
Almost exclusively as a mixer. Weekly.
Dropped soda as a teen, my vice now is coffee. Granted I limit myself to about three cups a week. The rest of the time I have water.

I am one of those people who love some coffee with my milk, aka latte and mixed coffee drinks. Lol
the results of this poll are shocking. I have always thought my lack of soda drinking made me an extreme outlier.
I don't drink soda at all.
@smilingheretic never is less frequent than quarterly, then
I need my sugar, man. Daily. 🤣
Does sparkling tap water count as soda?
@Jeremiah good question. What do you think?
Depends on if your definition of soda is carbonation + flavor + sugar or just carbonation.

I voted daily, since I drink carbonated tap water daily.

I think soda water is generally considered health neutral since there is no sugar or salt added.
I have up on soda because of my GERD. My last intake was at least 8yrs ago..
Is LaCroix (or imitators) soda?
@aburka good question! What do you think?

quarterly or less and even then it is homemade sparkling water (filtered tap) or San Pelligrino; even more rarely I may add a bit of hazelnut syrup for an Italian soda.
wait does this include unsweetened carbonated water?
I answered as though it doesn't 😀
Never. I hate the stuff.
Yes. Very much less than quarterly. 😃
i assume energy drinks count, in that case it's about weekly...
More like never for me.
Yep, that's what I had voted.
Quarterly or less, except when in Greece drinking Coke Stevia almost daily.
I used to drink coke all the time (and only the full-fat or should I say full-sugar variety). I found it unsustainable maintaining any sort of weight control with that regular sugar rush when I got older. I will still have the occasional one but nowadays if I'm the designated driver I'm more likely to be looking for a 0% ale of some sort.
@Sanlear so, less than quarterly
Last month I would have said less than monthly, but recently I started to experiment with Indian Tonic mixes with strong ginger root extract and other fruit additions. So about weekly now
water, tea, coffee, maté, beer, but not much soda...
IIRC 'soda' is used for lemonade like drinks, right? Here it's meant 'table water'. That kinda mineral water with high salt rate used for mixing a Fizz for example.
To hear my urologist at Cleveland Clinic tell it, the really meaningful metric seems to be how many we drink each day. Apparently, that volume many have a dramatic impact on metabolism and other health factors (but it's all under ongoing study).
There are a number of borderline drinks. Like, how different is sparkling apple cider from soda, really? Is kombucha that much healthier? These are drinks I have often, which fill a similar role to soda, but taste much better to me (and sometimes agree more with my digestion).

But if you hold to what most people call soda (or pop, or coke, depending on where you're from), I almost never drink it.
Wow, I drink way more soda than the average Masto user.
More than weekly, less than daily
After much deliberation I felt weekly was probably closest if I averaged it out over a 4 week period.
Now that those flavoured sparkling water brands are around, I only drink pop when there's no other option (and then it's always root beer, ginger ale, or ginger beer). The "no other options" situations are becoming more and more rare, though, which is fine by me.
Zero in the last four years.

Waaay too much before that 😉
Surprising results! And a lot of comments on the definition of "soda".

I'm monthly. We don't buy it for home, and I drink beer or wine if we go out. Every once in a while, get a craving while on a roadtrip.
one of my favorite datamaps is the distribution of regional terms for sugary carbonated beverage
@strap my wife is a taxonomist and that map is on slide 3 of her standard PowerPoint deck
similar here. I actually prefer fountain soda with lots of ice anyway so that’s usually what I get. Probably less than monthly but closer to monthly than quarterly if I had to guess.
