So, I got into a habit on Twitter of re-sharing my polls every few hours.

I wanted to make sure that people got a chance to see them, even if they weren't online exactly when I posted them.

The algorithmic timeline on Twitter also made this important.

Now, on Mastodon, it seems like it's less important. So, I'm going to dial back on re-boosting my polls.

I usually do 24-hour polls, so I'm going to try to reboost around 6, 12, 18, and 23 hours in.
I've had a few responses that people don't want to see so many polls.

Polls are one of my favourite ways to interact with others on social networks, so I don't plan to stop any time soon.

But! I'll make sure to use the tags #Poll and #EvanPoll so you can filter by tag.

That way, you can safely avoid poll questions and just enjoy my photos of soup to your heart's content.
and there's much less "Here are N S.craft you should {know, learn} to be S.expert". Or to use reaction icon for a vote.
@renoirb I don't understand this sentence. Could you be more explicit?
sorry.

I'm saying that on Twitter, there's a lot of additions to our feed from popular (lots of followers) inserted without a connection re-posting. And those do post click back content like "10 things a React developer myst know". Often content being just the most basics from the manual, or sometimes misleading info being repeated (instead of in depth understanding explained).

Or, contents just for making reactions, where a "vote" (which becomes a "like") baiting.
@renoirb OK! That seems like a general comment about content on Twitter, only loosely related to my conversation about my polls.
the reason you might repost more on Twitter probably in part because of that noise. No?
I love the polls, and I am sad that I missed the recipe one!
@lprodromo Well, now I want to know: do you share recipes?
I do! But… if I also don’t follow recipes to the letter (unless they are baking recipes), so if it’s something from a cookbook, that’s the recipe I share, but I probably substitute or change amounts of ingredients.
@lprodromo what about yiayia food? I typically won't share with non-family if asked. I don't like the idea of someone using those recipes without feeling their importance.
well! You remember Pappou taught me how to make several dishes right? And I wrote them down… only to realize when he said use a cup of lemon juice, he meant a cup that he got out of a canister of Country Time lemonade. Anyway, my point is that I just use my memory for those recipes. I don’t give them away as they wouldn’t be right anyway. I would share Solomonov’s hummus recipe though!
I look forward to hearing how the new schedule works out.
count me +1 for periodic reposts. I don’t live on Mastodon, and only open the app a couple times a day, so the “bubble up” to the top of my feed is helpful. … and I like the idea of using the tools of the platform (hashtags and filters) as a way to accomplish both goals of still doing polls without annoying the people it was annoying.
