I can't believe nuke it didn't make the list
This should be a checkbox poll, not a radio button poll(or possibly it should be a ranked-preference poll)
had to think about it this time. I usually fry because I don’t have a grill but I went with grill because “should” implies the preferred method.
If you have the time either butterfly or spiral cut it and THEN put it on the grill.. This is the way
there is no correct answer.
I split turkey dogs, fill them with onion slivers and pre-sliced mushrooms, then nuke for 45 seconds. Hardly a culinary masterpiece, but perfectly tasty with crazy-fast prep time.
You are missing “all of the above: pick the one that fits your taste buds that day.”
Slice it and a second hotdog finger thick, throw it in a bowl with the contents of a can of baked beans, and microwave for 90 seconds.
Boil it
Fry it
Roast it
Grill it

if you roast it, it would become a bradwurst.
Boiling after cutting long slits along the surface will cook out a lot of the fat.
Griddled (is that fried or grilled?)

... preferably in Denmark
Steamed, grilled, smoked - however you like, it's all good 😀
can you narrow down, what is a hot dog in your version of English?
@Br3nda is it maize or wheat flour batter?
it's all allowed, just not "bread crumb", that would be wrong.
@Br3nda with cornmeal (maize), we'd call this a corn dog. With anything else, we'd call it, I dunno, maybe a pig in a blanket?
pig in a blanket is a sausage wrapped in bacon

Simmer for 15 mins in a good stock!
Boil it harder, grill it better
Fry it faster, makes us stronger
surf it, scroll it, pause it, click it
cross it, crack it, switch – update it
microwave the shit out of it until it explodes
it definitely depends on what kind of hot dog. Some are better steamed, some are better grilled.
This one has to be "none of the above." I don't eat hotdogs.
(At the rhythm of Daft Punk's Technologic)

boil it fry it roast it grill it
microwave it smoke it check it
pinch it salt it season steam it
cut it taste it cook it better

bacon-wrap it tinfoil-toast it
cheese it flour it, and deep fry it

add tomatoes, red hot chillis
ample mustard, onions, peppers

How you cook it babe,
How to cook it babe?

Honestly, truly, without an iota of facetiousness: "with heat"

They respond differently, certainly, but each one I feel is just as valid as the other.
BBQ, you peasant.
I'm a proud hot dog boiler, but my hotdogs are also vegetarian so I feel like this is largely about how that foodstuffs cooks the best
You know that it comes fully cooked and you don't even have to cook it at all?
just plug it right in to 120VAC for about 30s. It will get steaming hot! No touchy though!
If you grill it, that is not a hot dog, it is a choripán… and is already more tasty before you put it on the grill 😉
Useful hack: boil, then grill. Heaven. :ms_yum:
This turned out very interesting.

I said fried. I think grilling is good but if you're not careful it's easy to burn them.
a little char is good!
Decades since I cooked a hot dog. Do cook lamb sausages and chicken sausages and for those I either grill directly or oven roast in cast iron skillet .
I just microwave them to be honest. They don't look great, but does the job.
i wonder if part of the appeal of grilled for me is somebody else does it 😅 I can do pretty darn good myself frying but I’m clueless about grilling
I was surprised fried was not more prominent in the responses.

That said, anyone have personal favorite ways to do the frying? What medium (specific oil)? Batter or no? Technique?

Or just toss it in a vat of generic cooking oil and walk away? 😀
how do vegans cook hot dogs?
